No Easter basket is complete without at least a little bit of candy, but what else can you put inside? Leave your suggestions so we can maintain an ever-growing list of ideas for unique Easter baskets.

What to put in Easter Baskets

My kids are grown now so I didn't want to give them baskets which would eventually be tossed. For my daughter, a pretty serving platter piled high with "girl gifts" (make-up,etc), a little candy, and Easter grass, all wrapped in cellophane with a pretty bow. For my adult son a clear cookie jar filled with a little candy, decks of cards, and "guy stuff".

Easter Basket Ideas

Some real cute glittery socks, a make up kit, made especially for little girls, hair clips w/ butterflies on them, just to name a few. For boys, a yoyo, they are back in style, a small "The Hulk"doll, comic books of Superman rolled up to fit in a basket. There will enough room left in both baskets for an orange, a juicy apple & Easter morning, top the baskets off w/ red & green grapes to hold a chocolate bunny in place.

Easter baskets for my girls

Every year my girls get a new bathing suit, bathing suit cover up and pajamas (to swap out the winter ones with) in their baskets. Other things we give depend on what they are into that year. Dolls, CD's, notepads/pens, coloring books/crayons, hair supplies, make up, nail polish, aluminum drink bottles, and books are some things we have given.

Easter basket filler ideas

Crayons such as the 64 or 100 box from Crayola. Colorful pencils, grips & cap erasers also are fun.

Scavenger Hunt

As a Great-Grandmother I want my Easter basket to be different. So...I fill each egg with simple directions on how to find various items hidden throughout my house, i.e. a book, a toy, a package of Gold Fish, etc. The 6-year-old sister helps her 2-year-old brother and they both have a blast.

Themed baskets

I like to theme Easter baskets (and stockings too) to make finding gifts easier and the gifts are more about the receivers interests than seasonal items. For example, this year my daughter will have a Minnie Mouse themed basket with the new DVD, a new spring Minnie Mouse outfit, etc. It makes shopping easier for me and creates a cohesive look.

a spend time together basket

You could add some printable activities or crafts for the children to do. You can find plenty of ready to print activities around the web (selfish plug ->) or make some custom materials at http://www.toolsforeducators.com/easter.php I add word searches and a reading worksheet to my kids basket every year. Also, since my kids love to draw, I put a few blank sheets of paper with a challenge: draw an Easter bunny in the park, draw the best Easter basket in the world, draw your family on Easter, ... these are much better than just coloring. (You can also tie it in with the coupons explained below, but I don't think every task needs to be rewarded.) Other ideas are clues for scavenger hunts, coupons for healthy items: trips to the park, one game of tag, fly a kite with dad, etc. With a little imagination the basket can be an exciting way to spend time together. Easter Baskets

Last year we gave the kids these neat buckets with wheels and a handle to pull around the yard, and filled it with kid sized gardening tools and outdoor toys, frisbees, jump ropes etc. And a few sweet treats, we'll do something similar this year.

Teens/Tweens Love Easter Baskets Too

We love to include DVD's, finger nail polish, other nail care items, jewelry, hair care items, notebooks, or cool pens/pencils. Sometimes crating an Easter basket around a theme is a fun way to go as it helps one to think outside the box and come up with items other than candy.

Retro Toys

As a grandparent, I like to put in retro toys like jacks and marbles. Then Grandpa and I get the fun of getting to teach them the games.

A Bible

My Mom makes these beautiful Easter baskets. For my son's first Easter, she created this basket that had a cute duck stuffed animal and a beautiful Bible. She's given him more Easter baskets over the years, but the only true treasure I can remember from all of the baskets is the sweet Bible from that very first year.

Egg shakers, egg cup

Those egg-shaped shakers (rhythm instruments) are perfect. You could also give a personalized--or just cute--egg cup, or any kiddie dishes or silverware with a spring theme.

I've seen people use small things of Playdough, mini games and bubbles. I would stay away from food things!
