Graduation Party Themes for Preschool and Kindergarten

By

Both the completion of preschool and moving-up from Kindergarten to the first grade are milestones worth celebrating. Whether you’re an educator in search of a theme for your class ceremony or a parent planning your child’s party, these graduation themes may be just what you’re looking for to plan your event.

This party theme treats young graduates like the shining stars they are. A star-shaped stencil makes homemade decorations a cinch, while foods cut into star shapes makes for an easy party menu. Cute ideas for games, crafts and favors designed around the theme help this star themed party to really shine.

3. Kinder-Garden

Throw a graduation party that celebrates how they blossomed in “kinder-garden.” Combine elements from the flower theme and bug theme parties to create a garden setting, and to find ideas for fun party games. Another option for a kinder-garden celebration is a flower-pot planting activity. Lollipop flowers are a fun party craft or favor, and cupcake flowers make the perfect dessert.

4. Nautical Party

A nautical party theme works well for a graduation party, as the graduates “set sail” for the next step of their journeys. This theme certainly works for a pool party celebration, but for young children who are setting sail from Kindergarten to first grade, the backyard can be just as easily transformed with a few baby pools and sandboxes. Not that you need to be outdoors at all, but if you do go with a pool party, make sure parents are in attendance to supervise their children. With sailing-themed ideas for everything from the invitations to the parting gifts, including suggestions for kid-friendly nautical foods, this party is the perfect way to say bon voyage to youngsters on their way to elementary school.

5. June Bugs

Sure, June Bugs are actually beetles, but your little preschool or kindergarten grads won’t learn that for a few more years. Take the bug-themed party and call it a “June Bugs” celebration, in honor of the month in which kids graduate. From ladybugs to bumble bees and even that itsy-bitsy, creepy, eight-legged critter, all the bugs of summer are invited to this party.

6. Rhyme Time

From Mother Goose to Dr. Seuss, preschool and kindergarten is a place where rhymes rule, so how about a graduation party with a rhyming theme? Send invitations with a rhyming verse, or help your child write a poem about his year in school. This will make a cute invitation, as well as a treasured keepsake. A rhyming book is all you need to create a reading circle, just like in the classroom. Other activities could include rhyming games, or art work based on their favorite Mother Goose characters. Serve food inspired by nursery rhymes, such as moon-shaped sandwiches or moon pies for “The Cow Jumped over the Moon.” And for a rhyming-themed party, what could make a better parting gift than a book of rhymes?

7. Friendship Theme

A party with a friendship theme celebrates the bonds they formed with their first school pals. If inviting the whole class, you could use a copy of the class photo for the invitations. Ask guests to bring the photo to the party, where friends can help each other decorate frames for their pictures. Decorate with cut out banners of kids holding hands. Friendship bracelets and handprint t-shirts (kids trace their hand onto shirts with fabric marker) are fun craft activities that can be used as party favors.

8. Summer Fun

A pool party, a beach-theme, a carnival --- consider a party theme that’s all about summer time fun for graduates who shine bright as the sun. This type of party theme not only celebrates graduation, it also kicks off the good times that lie ahead during summer vacation.
