Can you smell that? It's the first weekend of December and the scent of baking gingerbread is in the air. We like to do our gingerbread decorating early in the season, so we can kick off the festivities and add our creations to the holiday decor. Long after the decorating is done and the mess has been cleaned, the houses sit, in all of their candy-adorned glory, to welcome us all the way into the New Year. Which is why I like to say we're not just making gingerbread, we're making memories.
A gingerbread decorating party is a nice way to share those memories with friends and loved ones. I can already see the adorable table settings and hear the laughter as the children play gingerbread games.
As a matter of fact, of all the choices for holiday celebrations for kids, I think this one is my favorite. Sure, it's the messiest and possibly the most time consuming (especially when you bake your own gingerbread!), but it's also the one the kids seem to enjoy the most. Most Enjoyable for mom, too, is the chance to watch them become engrossed in the creative process and see their faces light up when it's time to show off their finished projects.
If that's not worth celebrating, I don't know what is.
