Two Cute, Easy Party Ideas

I never miss the annual Farm Chicks Antiques Show, which, as a buddy of mine put it, is "the Super Bowl for women." Think of it as the best flea market you've ever attended, with creative inspiration around every corner.

Farm Chick Serena Thompson always has a unique way to greet attendees near the show's front doors. One year, she wrapped a tree (a real tree) in colorful fabric. Last year, she hung giant clouds from the ceiling.

This year, her welcome display struck me as something you could replicate at kids' parties.

Serena placed cotton candy on paper cones to mimic ice cream cones, bundled them together and hung them from the ceiling. She also displayed an extra-large sign that simply read "fun." Each letter dangled separately, and it was the perfect spot to take a photo with friends.

You can see a larger version of the photo above here.

Both ideas would work at a kid's party, don't you think? "Fun" is a great word to hang, but you could also display the birthday kid's name, age, nickname or other personal message.

The separate-letter sign would also work for graduates (i.e., "Congrats!") or for holidays ("Ho! Ho! Ho!" on Christmas or "Love" on Valentine's Day).

Note how she used one color inside the letter and then outlined it in a different shade. I think that helps make the word pop against a busy background.

Clever, huh? And big and bold, too.
